Welcome to Grade 2!

Tuesday September 4th, 2018

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Welcome to a Grade Two and a brand new school year! I hope your summer holidays were relaxing and enjoyable. My name is Mr. John da Costa, and I will be your child's English teacher for the 2018-2019 school year. I look forward to getting to know your child and catching up with many familiar faces, including learning about all of their adventures over the summer.

In the next few weeks we will be very busy learning about each other, and our classroom and school routines. This year I will be teaching your child Religion and Family Life, Language, Mathematics, Science, Health and Physical Education and the Arts. Madame Nathalie Burns will be teaching your child French and Social Studies.

I am committed to creating an engaging and productive class environment in which your child will continue to develop academically, socially and spiritually. I plan on encouraging each student to take an active role in his/her learning through cooperative, small group and individual activities in the different subject areas. As well, your child will frequently be learning about and using technology (Smart Board, Chrome Books, Ipads etc.) as a way to further and demonstrate their learning.

As in previous years, the school agenda will provide an important communication link between school and home. Today, each student was provided with their brand new school agenda. The cost for the agenda this year will be included in the Student Activity Fee. In the next week, I will be sending home important and helpful handouts. Students are asked to get into the habit of placing handouts and school notes in the plastic pouch at the front of their agenda, and to take home the contents to be shared with you.

Important information specific to our class will also be posted to our Grade 2D class Blog, which will usually be updated several times per week. The link for our blog is mrdstl18.blogspot.ca. It can also be accessed on smartphones by scanning the QR code below. Over the course of the year, this blog will contain helpful information pages for English and Math review, homework instructions/references, anchor charts, study sheets (ex. Science), classroom updates, special events, etc.

Please contact me at school 613-692-3521 or through your child's agenda if any questions or concerns arise. I look forward to meeting you and welcoming you to our classroom on our Drop In Open House Night, which will take place on Thursday September 13th from 5:30 to 7:00.

Regards,

J. da Costa
