Data Management Activities

This week in class, we are choosing a topic of interest related to Christmas from which to create a survey. While you are surveying the other students, you will record your results on a tally chart. Next, you will be working on creating a pictograph and a bar graph from your data. Finally you will be working on coming up with 5 statements about what you learned from your graphs/data. Below I have included  a copy of the “Look 4s”  anchor chart we will be using.

As well, try some of these data/graphing interactive games.

Advent/Christmas Hampers

Dear Parents,

The following note was sent out this week with information about our Christmas Hamper program for families requiring assistance this Christmas season. Your child received a yellow sheet with items circled which we are requesting families donate if possible. Thank you to those who have already donated. We are requesting that donated items be sent to school by Tuesday, December 18th. We appreciate all of your support!

Many Thanks,

John da Costa

Wow, what a Great Day!

Dear Students,

I'm glad that you had a fantastic day at our White Elephant Sale today. You were able to pick up great gifts for your family and friends, and a couple of things for yourself. Say a great big "Thank You" to your parents who provided with you with Loonie and Twoonies for the sale. As well, we appreciated the used toys and other items from home that your parents donated for this event. All of this was for a great cause during this Advent season. Well done!

Mr. D :)

November - December Homework Update

Happy December Grade 2s,

A reminder that the combined November/December Homework is due this Friday, Dec. 14th.

As I mentioned in class, there will not be any more calendar homework assigned for next week. While this means that there will not be regularly nightly written homework assigned,  I will be posting recommended online games and activities which you are encouraged to do in its place. As well, you can continue with your Reading Points, RazKids and XtraMath!

Regards,

Mr. D:)

Christmas Craft Day and Sing-a-Long

Monday, December 3rd, 2016

Re: Christmas Craft Day and Sing-a-Long

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We are holding our annual Grade 2 Craft Day on the
afternoon of Friday, December 14th, 2018 in our classroom
As in past years, parents are welcome to join us if they wish
to help out. The Craft Day will be held in the 3rd Block
(1:00-2:15) and 4th Block (2:30 -3:45.)  You can come out
for one or both of the sessions depending on your preference
and availability. Students and parents should wear clothes that
are suited to painting. (We will be using acrylic paint, and this
usually does not come off clothing.)

We will also be holding a special 15-minute Advent & Christmas
Sing-A-Long we have been preparing for during both of these
blocks. (Yes, we get to sing twice in the same day!) I included
the words to the songs in a previous blog so that your children
can practise at home
if they would like.

If you are intending to join us, it would be appreciated if you
could indicate in your child's agenda which time(s) you will be
coming, as it will help us with planning. It should be a lot of fun!

Many Thanks,

J. da Costa

Tips for Homework

Dear Students,

The next couple of nights, you will be receiving your October Calendar homework back. For the most part it was well done! Right now you should be working on your November/December homework. Here are some tips to help you improve on this month's work.

  • Use a pencil please (no pens or markers.) This means you can neatly erase any corrections you have made.
  • Check through your Homework booklet before handing it in; this will help you to avoid missing any pages.
  • For Reading questions, please make sure that you respond in a full sentence. (This is how we have been doing it in class.) Part of the question should be in your answer.
  • For the journals. please skip lines. That way, I have room to add my feedback/corrections.
  • Remember that you complete and send me the journal part of your Homework on the computer through Google Docs. My address to share the work is john.dacosta@ocsb.ca
  • If you don't understand an exercise, please bring it to me the next day and I can help you!
  • If you are going to be late with your homework, please get your parents to write me a short note.
  • Please look over your work and my comments from the October homework. Any "TIPS" are there to help you!
  • The corrected homework package is yours to keep; you do not need to return it.

Regards,

Mr. D:)

Congratulations!

Dear Students,

Congratulations on earning your very first "10 out of 10 Day" for all of the good choices you made and lots of hard work. Yesterday, we had a great time going outside to play in the snow as a reward. As well, because you got the Grade 2D record for the class to achieve a 10 earliest in the year, you have earned another reward. Details will follow. Keep up the fantastic work, Grade 2s!

Regards,

Mr. D:)
